2012 Run the Pointe Recap

027

Over 400 runners and walkers, a record, participated in the 2012 Run the Pointe Booster Club run.  Run the Pointe was held on Saturday, September 22nd.  Although the weather was at first iffy, it turned out to be a fine morning for a run or walk around the neighborhood.  Proceeds from Run the Pointe help fund uniforms, equipment, athletic facilities upgrades, training and scholarships for the student-athletes and their teams at South.

The Women’s 5K run was won by local resident Susan Stapleton with a time of 20:21 teaching the younger students how it’s done.  South’s Anna Piccione finished second and Ella Willis followed in third.  South’s Charlie Warren finished first in the Men’s 5K with a time of 17:02 followed by Jacob Knuth and Zach Montgomery.  South parent Monique Turco won the Women’s 10K with a time of 42:55 followed by Carrie Backman and Laura Gabrion.  South graduate Patrick Dantzer pulled away from the Men’s 10K field for the second year in a row with a time of 33:31.  Matt Geist was second followed by Ed Kerr.  The full results can be found at http://www.hansonsracemanagement.com/index.php/race-results/fall-2012/run-the-pointe-10k-5k-a-2-mile-walk.

The Athletic Booster Club thanks all of the students, their family, neighbors and other runners in the tri-county area for participating in the run/walk.  Also, thanks go out to the numerous community volunteers, South coaches, South administration and the City of Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Officers without whom this event would not have been possible.  Finally, special thanks to our Event Sponsor, Vyletel Volkswagen, and the other local businesses, City Kitchen, Trader Joe’s, Breadsmith, Biggby Coffee, Grosse Pointe Athletic Club, Tivoli Graphics and Pointe Relief Massage Therapy by Allen Fender for their support.  Please patronize these businesses who give back so generously to the South community.

2011 Run The Pointe Recap

The weather was perfect for a run through the Farms--temperature in the 50’s, sunny and no wind!  Over 300 runners and walkers came out for the annual Grosse Pointe South Athletic Booster Club’s Run the Pointe.  Proceeds from the race will fund uniforms, equipment, facilities improvements, training and scholarships for the student athletes at South High School.

Congratulations go to the 5K winners, Austin Montgomery and Ersula Farrow, both South students.  The men’s 10K winner was Patrick Dantzer, a South graduate.  The women’s 10K winners were Hannah Meier and Kelsie Schwartz, both South students, who ran across the finish line together.  Individual runners in the 5K and 10K races were chip timed.  Complete results may be found here.

The Booster Club would like to thank all of the parents, neighbors, coaches, students and the Farm’s finest for helping to stage the event.  Special thanks go to our generous sponsors, Small Favors, Tivoli Graphics, Kapnick Insurance Group, Thunder Bay Pattern Works, The Russell Company, Women to Women Health Center, Xerox Corporation, All State Insurance, Trader Joe’s, Biggby’s Coffee, Crews Inn restaurant, George P Johnson, and the Grosse Pointe Athletic Club.  Please patronize these businesses who give back so generously to the South community.
